In the last five years, the "mobile DJ" market has seen a sharp surge in numbers, effectively expanding demand and the user base. This is the market for "all-in-one" consoles, whether standalone or used with an external laptop. Denon DJ must be credited as the brand that has best interpreted the expectations of this new generation of DJs, especially that large segment of professionals and enthusiasts looking for professional products capable of fully emulating classic consoles consisting of mixers and players.
Confirming this reputation, Denon DJ presents two new controllers that fill the market gap between one thousand and two thousand euros. We are talking about two new standalone consoles: a 2-channel (SC Live 2) and a 4-channel (SC Live 4) model, with top-of-the-line features. The two new models offer 2 or 4 decks with 7" touchscreen displays, high-quality integrated audio monitors, an internal Wi-Fi router, and the world's first DJ hardware integration thanks to an exclusive agreement with Amazon Music Unlimited. The partnership with the American giant—the first and so far only one in the world for this type of product—allows the user to directly access over 90 million CD-quality (lossless) tracks. Like all DENON DJ products, the SC Live 2 and SC Live 4 use the Engine DJ software, the "open" music management system that allows for lightning-fast track analysis without needing to go through an external computer. Dedicated layer buttons allow for quick access to the controls of each deck and the display of vertical waveforms, divided by channel, on the color touchscreen.
In the 4-channel version (SC Live 4), all "vital" information, including deck number, track position, BPM, and playback times, is displayed on the screen at the center of the 6-inch touch-sensitive jog wheels. "Computer mode" allows the SC Live 2 and SC Live 4 to also be used as digital controllers with external software. In this regard, a Serato DJ Pro license is included in the box, but in addition to Serato, the controllers are compatible with Virtual DJ (the full version license for which is not included). The 1:1 hardware-to-software integration allows for the display of moving waveforms and music library information on the 7" HD touchscreen, and provides full access to effects and other main functions.
The combination of features, performance, and remote access to streaming music libraries effectively opens up a new scenario in the fantastic world of mobile DJing. The 8 Performance Pads on each deck (accessible on the SC Live 2 via a 4+4 multi-layer) provide access to Hot Cue, Auto Loop, Manual Loop, Roll, Slicer, and Slicer Loop. Integrated effects include 4 Sweep FX that use a dedicated knob on each channel to expressively control combinations of effects and filters. The 13 BPM-synced effects can be customized using the FX control section, which includes a channel assignment knob, time and parameter control, an FX level encoder, and a backlit on/off button. The speakers mounted on the two consoles offer the perfect audio solution for live streaming, practicing, content creation, and monitoring during a set.
Like the entire DENON DJ range, the two new SC Live 2 and SC Live 4 consoles also allow for the control of audio and lights thanks to the integration between Engine DJ and Engine Lighting. It is fair to say that you only need to press a button to instantly access lighting scenes that are automatically synchronized or pre-programmed for every single track in your archive or streaming. Through the console, it is possible to control parameters related to color, intensity, and strobe, whether using Phillips Hue or Nanoleaf technology, or a standard DMX lighting mixer.
